Reflection on Parkinson’s Walk in the Park

DSC_2124Thank you, Alan, for inviting me to this wonderful event on Father’s Day! We walked along the beautiful Broadwater Park while listening to birdsong with tender loving touch by light breezes. The weather was just perfect, not too hot, not too cold, it was just right! The warm up exercises were fun to do and watch (excused myself after half way as my tiny little feet were protesting and aching from standing almost 12 hours the day before) Such a great atmosphere!

DSC_2110-e1442555060258-1024x1024I take my hat off to the people with Parkinson’s disease who show me their strength and determination to live well despite of the devastating impacts the disease has on their daily living! An elderly gentleman even joked that without Parkinson’s disease, his family would not have bought him his personal motor scooter and now he is more mobile than everyone else! A lady shared her journey through Parkinson’s disease and it brought tears to my eyes! Another lady shared her mum’s struggle with Parkinson’s disease due to adverse effects of medications she was taking and finally got the right balance between symptomatic control and adverse effects just a few months ago! With the realisation of how fortunate I’m to be able to stand on my feet for almost 12 hours the day before, I’m thankful for the good health I’ve taken for granted.

DSC_2116Very excited about the upcoming talk on Medication Used to Treat Parkinson’s disease with Alan and other members of Parkinson’s Queensland from the Helensvale branch at the end of this month! Always loved contributing a little something back to the community so looking forward to make positive difference in people’s lives!
